Job Description

About Black Men Teach (BMT)

Black Men Teach is a movement and a mission — building a future where every child has the opportunity to learn from, be led by, and be inspired by a Black male educator. We recruit, prepare, and support Black men to enter and thrive in the classroom, strengthening schools and transforming communities in the process. At BMT, we’re reimagining what it means to teach, lead, and belong. Our team is bold, innovative, and deeply rooted in purpose. We don’t just talk about change — we design it, build it, and live it every day. Our work is rooted in the belief that representation matters—and that our children’s schooling experience will never be complete without Black male teachers in the classroom.

Position Overview:

The Recruitment Manager leads Black Men Teach's recruitment function by developing and managing a high-quality pipeline of future Black male educators. This role is responsible for executing recruitment strategies, cultivating prospective Fellows, coordinating outreach initiatives, and ensuring an exceptional candidate experience from initial engagement through enrollment.

Reporting to the Director, Collective Impact & Partnerships, the Recruitment Manager serves as the operational lead for recruitment efforts and works closely with schools, colleges, community organizations, and internal program leaders to strengthen the educator pipeline and achieve organizational recruitment goals.

The ideal candidate is a relationship-driven professional who thrives on building connections, engaging communities, and creating pathways that inspire future educators.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Recruitment Strategy & Pipeline Management (35%)
    • Execute annual recruitment strategies aligned with organizational growth goals and educator pipeline priorities.
    • Build, manage, and maintain a diverse recruitment pipeline across K–12 schools, colleges, educator preparation programs, and community organizations.
    • Develop recruitment campaigns that increase awareness, engagement, and applications.
    • Monitor recruitment progress and recommend adjustments that improve pipeline performance.
    • Coordinate recruitment calendars, outreach activities, and enrollment milestones.
    • Support annual recruitment goal setting and implementation planning.
  • Outreach & Community Engagement (25%)
    • Develop and maintain strong relationships with school leaders, counselors, educators, higher education partners, and community organizations.
    • Represent Black Men Teach at recruitment events, career fairs, conferences, school visits, and community gatherings.
    • Conduct information sessions, presentations, and recruitment workshops for prospective Fellows and families.
    • Partner with internal teams to identify new recruitment opportunities and expand community visibility.
    • Serve as a positive ambassador for Black Men Teach throughout the recruitment process.
  • Candidate Experience & Enrollment (20%)
    • Manage the prospective Fellow experience from initial inquiry through enrollment.
    • Guide candidates through the application, interview, and onboarding process.
    • Ensure timely, consistent, and professional communication throughout the recruitment journey.
    • Coordinate candidate interviews, follow-up communications, and enrollment activities.
    • Build strong relationships with prospective Fellows that foster trust, engagement, and belonging.
  • Recruitment Operations & Continuous Improvement (10%)
    • Maintain recruitment databases, CRM systems, and applicant records.
    • Track recruitment metrics including inquiries, applications, interviews, enrollments, and conversion rates.
    • Prepare regular recruitment reports and pipeline updates for organizational leadership.
    • Use recruitment data to identify trends and recommend process improvements.
    • Ensure recruitment activities align with organizational policies and operational procedures.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration (10%)
    • Collaborate closely with the Director, Secondary Programs & Educator Pathways to align recruitment efforts with program capacity and student engagement.
    • Partner with the Director, Postsecondary Success to support seamless transitions into postsecondary programming.
    • Work alongside the Director, Collective Impact & Partnerships to leverage strategic partnerships that strengthen recruitment efforts.
    • Support cross-functional initiatives, recruitment campaigns, and organizational events.
    • Champion Black Men Teach's mission, values, and commitment to educational equity in every interaction.
