Job Description

We are seeking a compassionate Croatian-speaking Companion Caregiver to support a 76-year-old male client living with dementia in the White Plains / Valhalla area of Westchester County .

This is a meaningful opportunity to provide companionship, cultural connection, and engaging support to a client who values his Croatian heritage.


About the Role:

  • Provide companionship, conversation, and cognitive engagement

  • Accompany client on walks and simple outings

  • Engage in games and meaningful activities

  • Assist with light housekeeping (laundry, simple meal preparation)


Ideal Candidate:

  • Fluent in Croatian (required)

  • Experience with dementia care preferred

  • Warm, patient, and engaging personality

  • Enjoys conversation, cultural connection, and companionship-based care


Location:
White Plains / Valhalla, Westchester County
Conveniently located just a 2-minute walk from the Valhalla Metro-North station


Schedule:

  • 2–3 days per week

  • 4–8 hour shifts

  • Between 10:00 AM – 6:00 PM

  • Flexible scheduling within these hours

Pay: $30/hour

Responsibilities :

  • Providing companionship to older adults and people with chronic health conditions in their homes (e.g., discussing current events, creating artwork, reviewing photo albums).

  • Providing compassionate, patient hands-on personal care support for ADLs, including bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, and transfers.

  • Planning activities outside the home and accompanying clients to keep them engaged with the world and their favorite pastimes (e.g., trips to museums, concerts, plays, or the park).

  • Escorting clients to doctors’ appointments.

  • Running errands for clients (e.g., grocery shopping, sundries).

  • Reminding clients to take their medications.

  • Doing light exercise with clients (e.g., helping with stretching routine or prescribed physical therapy).

  • Assisting clients in preparing meals.

  • Performing light housekeeping, such as dusting, tidying, and laundry.

Qualifications :

We welcome candidates with diverse backgrounds including the creative arts and healthcare fields. Our employment is selective.

Strong candidates possess:

  • A passion for caring for individuals with Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias. Prior experience working with this population is valued, but not required.

  • An accredited high school diploma, though we prefer candidates with college and advanced degrees.

  • Deep empathy and patience.

  • Flexibility, reliability, and responsiveness.

  • Creativity and a positive, open-hearted approach.

  • Strong composure under pressure.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to build trust-based relationships with clients and their families.
